Hello and welcome to the autumn term in year 5!
In our brand new classroom this year you will find Mrs Whittle, Mrs Prior, and 30 fabulous children!
This term our topics are World War I and World War II. The children will be asking the question, why did the world go to war?
In English this term we will be looking at Private Peaceful, Archie’s War, Adolphus Tips, The Piano and War Poems.
We will learn how we can improve our writing by using interesting adjectives and creating tension by using ellipsis …
We will also be working hard to improve our handwriting and learn and use lots of new vocabulary. All spelt correctly of course!
In maths we will doing work on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
In our science sessions this term our focus will be on the properties of materials.
Our P.E days are Wednesday and Friday and full P.E. kits are needed on those days.
In music we will be learning songs made popular during the two world wars.
In RE we will be learning about the 5 Pillars of Islam.
We will also be doing PHSE, ICT and French.
It will be a very busy term but hopefully lots of fun!
Special events include an international language day, Macmillan coffee afternoon, a spooky disco and a Christmas Fair.
If you have any questions at all, please see me or Mrs Prior before or after school or arrange an alternative time at the school office if this is not convenient.
