Hello and a very warm welcome to Year 3!
The autumn term is a very challenging but exciting time for Year 3 as they start their Key Stage 2 journey! The children will be building on the skills they have developed in Key Stage 1, by engaging in enquiry-based learning throughout the curriculum and taking ownership of their learning.
In English we are starting off the term exploring the features of description through the story ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. The children will begin to develop a rich vocabulary through both spoken and written work. Other texts include ‘Where the Forest Meets the Sea’ and ‘Polar Express’. Reading will be a constant focus, with guided reading activities becoming part of our weekly classroom routine.
In maths we will be developing a sense of number through place value work using all four operations. Mental and written strategies will be applied to all our focused maths lessons, which will be aimed at supporting the children to progress as independent, problem solving mathematicians!
Our topic this term is ‘Rainforests’ which the children are very eager to begin. We will be using our skills to locate places around our world, and gather information using specific geographical language.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
