Hello and welcome to Year 3 Starlings!
The spring term continues to be challenging, and the children will now be building on their skills from Autumn term. We are supporting the children in becoming aware of how they learn by ensuring lessons are progressive and reflective. Children will also be encouraged to become independent thinkers who can make connections and apply their skills across the curriculum
In English we are starting off the term with some cross curricular reading, as we explore ‘Stone Age Boy’, by Satoshi Kitamura and ‘The First Drawing’, by Mordicai Gerstein. The books will be used in both English and history lessons to create further interest around our topic,‘Stone Age to the Iron Age’. The children will use their imaginations as they transport themselves to the Stone Age and use their history knowledge to create settings, characters and plots in their own writing. This term will focus heavily on building comprehension skills and reading texts of increasing length will become part of our daily routine.
Problem solving, reasoning and fluency remain as key skills which the children are expected to use in daily maths lessons. This term we will be covering multiplication and division, money, statistics and fractions. Children will be given opportunities to be ‘Mathematical Wizards’ across the curriculum. For example, they will use statistics to record findings as they look at rocks and fossils in science.
